Some of the Equipment We Repair and Install:

Heaters

Pool and in-ground spa heaters should be maintained and inspected on an annual basis. Most heaters that need to be replaced are due to improper maintenance or the results of having been installed incorrectly, or they may just simply be worn out. Heaters that use natural gas or propane must have a proper gas line with the correct gas pressure for the heater to work efficiently and safely. If this is not set up correctly it can ruin your heat exchanger, burners, refractory walls, or even worse, it can cause a fire. It is very important  for heaters to be vented properly with the right amount of fresh air. Again, this can ruin your heater or expose you and your loved ones to serious personal injury or even death.

If you think you are having any of these issues, call The Pool Tech before you spend thousands of dollars on a new pool heater. We can help determine if your equipment is getting to the end of it's life expectancy or if some maintenance or repair is all that is necessary to continue with your current equipment.

We service the following pool and in-ground spa heater brands:

  • Raypak

  • Pentair

  • Hayward

  • Jandy

  • Teledyne Laars

  • Coates

Filters

Having your filtration system working at top efficiency is very important in maintaining the quality and cleanliness of your water. If your water chemistry is balanced but the water is still not clear, then you might have a problem with your pool filtration system. The Pool Tech services and repairs sand, cartridge, and DE filtration systems. One of the main tools to determine what is going on with your filtration system is the pressure gauge that is installed on all filtration systems. If the psi is too high or too low, it could mean that there is something wrong with your filter. If you see the pressure gauge is not working, it should be replaced immediately. A flow meter can also be installed to determine how the filter is operating.

  • Sand filters are the easiest to maintain but do have a multiport valve which can fail and cause improper filtration, water leaks or sand and debris returning to the pool. The sand needs to replaced every 5-10 years depending on usage as over time, the sand becomes solidified and causes the filter to leak or crack the laterals and dump sand into the pool. It is very evident when this happens.

  • Cartidge filters' biggest advantage is the need to only be cleaned periodically (4 times a year) and fully replaced about every 2-5 years. Cleaning the filter can be a very tedious process and can be dangerous if not done correctly. If you are not comfortable with this, this is a service we offer.

Pumps

Pumps are the hardest working piece of equipment in your equipment room. They pull water out of your pool and pump it into the filter for cleaning. If you have solar heating, that water is pumped up to the top of your roof, into your heater and back to the pool at 40-80 gallons a minute. Due to such heavy ongoing usage, the effects of pool chemistry and what kind of plumbing you have, bearings, seals, and O-rings can wear out fast and need to be addressed about every 1-5 years. It is also very important to have the right pump for the right job, so proper pump sizing should be a serious consideration when selecting a pump. If your pump is undersized, you might be servicing the pump every year with the result of your pool water not filtrating properly, or getting improper water flow thru the pool heater which can cause damage to your heater.A typical single speed pump can cost up to $900 a year to run. In comparison, VS pumps cost about $200 year to run, which over time will save you quite a bit of money. They also dramatically reduce the noise level associated with traditional pool pumps and reduce wear, not only the pump itself, but also on filters, heaters, chlorinators and other equipment that water flows through.

Automation

Pool automation takes the work out of pool and spa ownership by automating all work-intensive functions, such as sanitization, balancing pH, cleaning and filtration. Perhaps best of all, automation can save you money. When your automation system is not working correctly, you want a repair tech who has experience with these complex systems. Automation systems use software which may need to be updated, PC boards that can fail, sensors that need to be replaced, actuators that are no longer turning, or you may have some kind of communication problem with your remotes.

We service the following automation systems:

Lighting

Having a well-lit pool adds a wonderful ambiance to your pool and backyard but like all lights, they eventually go out. Pool and spa lights are sealed fixtures that are submerged under water. They can be incandescent, halogen, or LED and all have a gasket to prevent water from entering the fixture. Sometimes the gasket that prevents water from entering the fixture fails. Because of this reason, it is extremely important that ALL POOL AND SPA LIGHTS NEED TO BE ON A GFCI AND SHOULD BE CHECKED PERIODICALLY TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY. When water enters the fixture, the fixture must be replaced. Eighty percent of the time you just need a new bulb, which would involve removing the fixture from the water and replacing the bulb and gasket. Then, we would test the fixture for leaks and install the fixture back in the pool.

Plumbing and Valves

Over the lifetime of your pool, eventually valves will no longer turn and seal correctly, which can then cause leaks on the return side and introduce air to the plumbing lines on the suction side.  This can not only cause your pump to run dry, but it can cause damage to your pool equipment. If your pump is losing prime or is hard to prime, one of the main suspects is the plumbing and the cut off valves. To solve these problems, valves can be replaced, some can be repaired, lines can be replaced, and adapters can be resealed.
